Don’t Void Your HVAC Warranty!
Installation of a new HVAC system sure can be expensive! If you have an American Standard system installed, you’ll want to keep your warranty in good standing to ensure your new investment is covered. However, some of us may be confused by what a warranty really even is. Warranties are a written agreement issued to the purchaser by the manufacturer. The warranty promises to repair or replace certain parts within a certain period of time, if the situation meets the stated requirements in the contract. It also tells you what is covered, and what isn’t. Let’s break it down a little more!
Three Types Of Warranties
American Standard offers three types of warranties with varying benefits. To start, every American Standard air conditioning system is covered by a Base Limited Warranty.
For additional coverage, the customer’s new system is also eligible for a Registered Limited Warranty. You can cover your system with the secondary warranty by registering your system within 60 days of installation. If the system is not registered, only the Base Limited Warranty will apply.
Finally, there are Optional Extended Warranties available for additional coverage. You can contact your HVAC installer to learn more about purchasing this option.
Common Mistakes
Once you have your new system installed and any additional warranty coverages in place, the last thing you want to do is void it! It’s important to thoroughly review the warranty paperwork to understand all of the fine print. Listed below are a few common mistakes that can void your HVAC warranty!
Preventative Maintenance
It is stated within the eligibility requirements of the Base Limited Warranty agreement that proper preventative maintenance is required. If issues arise with your new system, American Standard can request documentation to show you have been having proper preventative maintenance performed on your system the entire length of your ownership. Don’t void your warranty over this silly slip up! It’s easy and beneficial to enroll in a preventative maintenance plan as it not only keeps your system eligible for warranty coverage, but also ensures your system is running efficiently all year round.
Refrigerant Policy
This is one policy which can be easily overlooked! R-22 is a type of refrigerant whose production and import is now illegal in the United States due to its negative impact on the environment. You must use R410-A refrigerant for your system to be covered by this warranty. If for any reason contaminated, counterfeit, non-genuine, or non-manufacturer approved refrigerant is used, this will void the Limited Base Warranty. Certified, professional HVAC technicians at Garrison & Garrison are well educated on these regulations and will only use approved products with your system.
Accidents
Some situations just aren’t covered by your warranty. If any modification, alteration, misuse, negligence, or accident occurs to your system that results in failure, defect, or damage, your warranty will likely be voided. Keep this from happening by immediately calling the professionals to come service your system when issues arise. Don’t try to fix HVAC issues yourself.
Claims
You must inform American Standard of a claim within one year once the cause of action has risen. Even if the warranty covers the part of five years, you must make the claim with American Standard within one year of any issues arising. Otherwise you are not eligible for coverage.
