Hiking
Hiking is a fun, low-impact outdoor activity that is both amazing exercise and a great interactive experience! North Alabama has some beautiful trails of varying difficulty, scenery, and length for you to choose from. Find the perfect trail on the Land Trust of North Alabama website, and plan a hiking trip for you and a partner, the whole family, or with a couple of friends! Some of our favorite spots are Bethel Springs, Chapman Mountain, and Monte Sano!
Hays Nature Preserve
Hays Nature Preserve is a wonderful outdoor space to enjoy a hike, or if you’re feeling a bit more adventurous, even a biking trip! There are also designated trails for horseback riding for those that ride, and areas to take your dog on long walks. It also features a golf course which could be its own fun summer activity to enjoy. Of course, you can also bring a snacks, food, and drinks and enjoy a picnic as well!
Farmers Markets
The summer is the perfect time to find your local farmers market! There are about ten different farmers markets spread across Madison County, each with their own unique fresh goods for you and the family to enjoy. Going to the farmers market is a great way to get outside, explore the community, and connect with locals. The best part is you’ll be supporting local farmers and producers while getting delicious and organic foods! You’ll also be able to find fresh flowers, baked goods, and maybe some arts and crafts as well!
Concert at Three Caves
Land Trust members can enjoy a Concert at Three Caves this summer! There’s no shortage of bands that play right in the mouth of a cave for a large audience with beautiful lights and scenery at the foot of the Monte Sano Mountain right in Huntsville. You can feel the summer vibes here with the whole audience sitting in their favorite lawn and bag chairs enjoying the music together!
Library Summer Story Times
The Summer Reading Program at public libraries is a fun way to get involved and get your young kids out of the house. All over Madison County and Northern Alabama, public libraries host read-aloud story time in the summer for kids of all ages, which is a perfect opportunity to have some educational fun with the family. The Huntsville-Madison County Public Library has arguably the most popular read-alouds, which are sometimes outdoors or right in the library itself.
